Archeology Day

We had an AMAZING day at Berry Springs park today! They were having an archeology day with lots of activities for the kiddos. The best part is that it was free, even hot dog lunch!

We started out petting ponies. Lyric and Cadence both pet and brush them. Story wasn't in a pony kind of mood.

The girls then wanted to go over to the play scape. Daddy and I were not really in the mood for the play scape! They had all of these great activities going on and we wanted to check them out, but unfortunately the activities were for the little people, so we had to follow their lead:-)

Cadence climbed up this latter and then asked that I take her picture. Too cute!

Daddy and Story spotted this flower bush with about ten butterflies on it. They were so beautiful.

Story didn't care too much for the butterflies, but she did get a picture of this dragonfly.

Lyric spotted and caught this baby frog. He was SO little. We played with him a bit and then set him free.

She then caught a ladybug.

We headed back to the play scape so the girls could get a monkey bar lesson.

The Native American dancers started and that helped us get away from the play scape and back to the activities.

We visited a Comanche tepee that was set up with things from that time period. Story and Cadence were so cute carefully walking around the mock fire and pots "cooking."

There was an awesome storyteller spinning some Native American tales.

While walking around Miss Lyric caught a caterpillar. She and Story played with it awhile until it pooped on them!

Lyric and Story both made pictographs on rocks. Cadence drew Daddy.

We then headed over to grid some corn. At first the big girls didn't want to participate, but Cadence was insistent... "I want to make some corn!" She and Story ended up trying it. First, they had to get the kernels off the cob.

Then they had to grind it. What hard work!

I'm thankful we don't do it that way today!

They got to keep their ground corn.

We're going to feed it to the birds or squirrels.

We made Indian Rattles. They basically consisted of a Y shaped stick that had beads across the middle that rattles when you shake it. The girls started out making them, but the projects were soon passed onto Daddy and I.

Cadence didn't make a rattle, but she had a good time playing with feathers!

Story Bell did a little dance with her rattle.

They had a station set up to do a mock archeology dig. The girls had lots of fun sifting through the dirt! Daddy had lots of fun talking with the archaeologists! We stopped by to pet the donkeys on our way to the car. We finally learned their names today, JJ and Poco (I think).

Anyway, the highlight of the day for Miss Lyric was getting a picture taken with the a Polaroid camera. The boy scouts were taking pictures for donations and she said, "That camera was the coolest thing ever! Look the picture is just right here! See we have the picture!"

Overall, we all had a great time!

Art Festival

Grammy came to visit this weekend, so the girls and I decided to take her downtown to the art festival. Miss Lyric wasn't really into the crowds, so we called Daddy to came and pick her up just a few minutes after we got there. They had a children's art tent set up. Cadence and Story both made masks.

The girls weren't much into looking at all of the art, so we bought them each a bag of Cheetoes and that kept them busy while we looked around. The weather was beautiful and the art work was amazing! Fun times!

Homemade Pizza

We have been making pizza around here lately. We have just been buying the refrigerated crust and adding our toppings. Devon got a little fancy tonight. He added chicken, ranch dressing, bell peppers, tomatoes, cheese and a whole bunch of spices. It was yummy!

Carmel Apples

The girls and I made Carmel apples today.

First we put the sticks in.

We unwrapped all the candies.

There were supposed to be 50 here, but if you count there were a few missing thanks to Lyric and Cadence. Story and I were willing to wait.

Everyone had a turn mixing.

Miss Lyric was a little worried about getting burned, but we were all careful.

Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of the final product. But I have to tell you they were yummy!

Sink Bath

Baby Cadence has discovered a love for the sink bath. It all started one night when I didn't feel like getting down on the ground to give her one in the bath tub.

She now wants one ALL the time. She doesn't really understand that she is getting too big to fit in the sink!

It's all good fun!

Lyric All Made Up

Miss Lyric decided she needed some makeup tonight. She did it all herself:-)

In case you are wondering, no one around here wears makeup that shade! But her markers sure did work well for her!

Pumpkin Patch

We have been waiting for the weather to cool off a little so we could walk down the road to a church selling pumpkins. It is finally starting to cool down a little, so we headed over this afternoon. Baby Cadence was chillin' in the wagon for the journey.

The girls set off to find the perfect pumpkins. They each picked a baby pumpkin and we got a big "family" pumpkin.

They each spent lots of time looking for just the one they wanted. Cadence carried around about 47 different pumpkins before she decided on one.

Story didn't have much to say in her quest. She was all business!

Miss Lyric just kept repeating, "I can't find one." As if 437 pumpkins aren't enough to choose from.

We HAD to take the annual picture in the pumpkins. It took a while to get the perfect shot:

getting everyone settled in for the shot,

they're all looking, but only one has a cute smile,

two girls and a pumpkin,

one down enough with the picture taking,

one down, one losing interest, one still going strong,

it was worth it!

As if they weren't tortured enough let's do a few on the hay bales. Story is thinking: Another picture, COOL! Cadence is thinking: Sit here, okay. Lyric is thinking: Are you kidding me? More pictures!

Yea, that went well:-)

Our pumpkin has cute little stickers for a face and band aids on his head, but the girls have informed us that there will be no carving this year! They don't want to cut 'Pumpkinee" open! I was a little disappointed at first because I wanted to try roasting the seeds. But, carving is always such a mess and the girls tend to lose interest about 10 minutes into it, so it's all good.

* FYI in case you didn't notice Story seems to have moved out of her 'NO PICTURES!' mode or maybe it was just this day. Only time will tell.

Baby Z Comes to Visit

Aunt Kristin had something to do this afternoon, so Baby Z came over for a visit. We played outside for a while and then went for a walk. After our walk, we were going to go in the house, but Zayden wasn't having it. That boy LOVES to be outside!

He sat in the John Deere for a long time and then the girls decided to give him a ride.

Lyric drove him first.

I'm not sure what he was telling me here, but he was sure happy!

He and Story were much more serious on their ride.

Cadence had a great time on her turn, but Mister Z seemed a bit worried about her driving abilities!

In this shot I think he is saying, "You do realize she is only six months older than me, should she really be driving this thing?"

As usual we had a great time babysitting!
