Sleepy Head

We had a playdate at the house today, so Cadence didn't get her nap in. I thought the nap could wait until after lunch, but apparently I was wrong. Poor baby!

Three Little Monkeys Sleeping in the Bed

As most of you know we like to play musical beds around here. Some nights we all sleep together; some nights Devon sleeps with a kid or two in our bed and I sleep with a kid or two in the girls bed, you just never know where we are going to end up. To a lot of people this is crazy, but it works for us. Last night we all ended up in the big bed. I slept great, but I think Devon had about an inch and half or maybe two! I'm not sure how good he slept? This morning after he and I got up the girls all ended up snuggled together. They were precious all cuddled up together. Lyric doesn't look very comfortable, but she and Cadence slept until almost 8:30, so I guess it works for them!

Are you two or twelve?

The girls and I were out of town this weekend, so Devon moved our good desk chair to his desk and put his not so good chair at my desk. Today Story was doing some "work" on my computer. Devon and I were in Cadence's room sitting at his computer. She walked in the room and asked Devon, "Can you take this chair back to the office that other chair is not exactly working for me?"
Devon and I both said, "What?"
So, she repeated herself! I just want to know one thing--when exactly did my two year old turn twelve and where was I when it happened?

Laundry Girl

Story and I were folding laundry today, yes by her request! She decided to take her panties off so we could fold them. It was hilarious! I said,"Why are you doing that?" She simply said, "Because they need to be folded." So, we folded them.
I was telling Devon about it and he asked if I told her we needed to wash them first. I told him no because she thinks anytime she goes to the potty she needs to put on new panties, so they really weren't dirty anyway.
I know many of you are shocked at all the talk about Story and panties, but she does go through days when she feels panties are a necessity, today happened to be one of those days.

Children's Day Art Park

Devon and I took the girls downtown today. The Austin Symphony puts on Children's Day Art Park on Wednesday mornings in the summer. Today was Teddy Bear picnic, so the girls brought their teddy bears and Lyric was insistent that she bring her purse! Big Smith, a bluegrass band, was playing. They were really good, complete with washboard. It was a lot of fun. It was hot, but we all enjoyed it.Yes, that is Lyric's purse in Story's hand.Lyric decided she needed to sit after a while. She found a very comfortable seat! Story only halfway enjoyed. About halfway through the show she said she was ready to go home. Yes, she really did plug her ears! I gave her a snack and she was able to make it through the show. Daddy was such a trooper holding the bears and Lyric's purse! After the musicians performed, we walked down the street to the art park and the girls did some coloring, worked with clay and listened to a quartet with Daddy. We are planning to go back next week and see Cowgirl Sue.

Sweet Sisters

Here is an old video I found of the girls. I just wanted to post it because I thought it was so cute! It was taken in May of '07, so Story would have been 17 months and Lyric just turned three that March.

Happy Birthday to Me

Today was my birthday and I had a fun day with the family! Last week Devon and I went out to celebrate with no children (thanks, Grammy and Mimi J!). We went to The Melting Pot. I had only been there for ladies night and Devon had never been, so we really enjoyed the experience. If you have never been you should definitely check it out!
First of all, I must tell you about the best birthday present ever! Devon gave me a CD of the girls singing me Happy Birthday and telling me why they love me so much. I cried when I heard it! He was even able to get Cadence to talk on it. Did you guys know I have an awesome husband? I complain about him sometimes, but he really does rock!
Today I wanted to go to the Farmer's Market downtown because we had never been. It was a lot of fun! We didn't really buy much, but it was fun just walking around and seeing all of the people and food. Mr. Johnny was set up and singing to the kids. He was having an open mic where the kids could go up and sing while he played the guitar or piano. We tried to get Lyric to go up, but she was being shy. He started singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and we told Story to go up and sing. She went up and sang Stinkle Stinkle Little Skunky by Lucas Miller. It is sang to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle. It was hilarious! My mom got it on video. I will see if I can figure out how to add it here. Too cute!
When we left the Farmer's Market we decided to go eat at Shady Grove. Yum! I had the BLT and an order of onion rings. The BLT was really good, but I couldn't eat the onion rings. They just tasted too fried. I think my body was rejecting them because I went swimming this morning and my body knows it isn't going to be that size eight (see previous post) eating too much junk. Although it didn't reject the BLT or the milk shake the girls and I shared...hm... maybe since it was my birthday I was allowed a little junk:-) We all posed for some pictures while waiting for the food. Some of us more willing than others:-)
When we got home Grammy and Lyric gave me a Sopapia Cheesecake they made. My body did allow some of that too, and boy am I glad it did. WOW!
In the afternoon we got rid of some junk! We have had these two boxes sitting in a corner in our bedroom for about a year now. We finally decided to declutter and get rid of most of the stuff in them. It is so nice seeing the empty corner now!
I had a great 34th birthday!

Happy 4th of July

We decided to go to Georgetown for the 4th this year. Grammy and Bob brought the girls home and then spent the night with us. The girls played on the play scape while waiting for it to get dark. We had some cookies while hanging out on the picnic blanket.
When the sun started going down I showed them the coolest neon bracelets I bought on the $1.00 rack at Target. They glowed in the dark. I tried to get a good picture, but as you can see that didn't go too well! Lyric freaked out when the fireworks started. She sat in my lap the entire time with her hands over her ears. It was way too loud for her! It was really loud! Georgetown puts on a really good show. We all enjoyed it!
I let Story take some pictures while we were waiting for it to get dark. She doesn't point the camera at herself anymore, but she tries to get SO close to you she has a tendency to not get the whole shot. Improvement, I'm not sure?
This is a shot of Grammy, Bob and Cadence. I'm not sure if she meant to only get Grammy's arm or if that was an accident. This is one she took of me. Do you like my ear? She took this awesome close up of Cadence.

Awesome Straw!

My friend Jamie, from our playgroup, has developed the coolest straw ever! She has a patent pending and is trying to get the straw manufactured. Go check out her website and take the survey. She is an awesome mother of three with a great new product to offer!
