Bird Nests

Today we decided to give the birds some help in building their nests. I saw the idea at Here We Are Together and thought it might be fun to give it a try. Miss Lyric worked really hard filling her holes with yarn and ribbon.I was helping Cadence with hers. I told her to go find us a small stick to put in the toilet paper roll. This is what she found. Two problems with that Baby Cadence: 1) It won't fit in your toilet paper roll 2) I don't think it would help the birds too much if it would fit. But you sure are cute bringing it to me to use! Lyric decided to hang hers outside the playroom window.
Story, hold yours up so I can take a picture of it... can't really see your creation, but you're sure cute.
Cadence and I hung ours in the backyard.
We haven't seen any birds on these yet, but we will keep you all updated on them.

Muffin Tin Monday

It has been a really long time since we have had a Muffin Tin Monday around here! I made the girls a MTM today, so you know I had to take a picture;-)
They had cheese and turkey hot dog stuck with pretzels. Then they had watermelon and pineapple served with toothpicks. Yes, I was afraid someone might get stuck. But luckily they just used the toothpicks to stick the fruit, not each other. Cadence and Story catching some Barney while enjoying their muffin tin. Cadence looks like she got a little wild with the ketchup on the chin:-)

Lyric's Grocery List

So, yesterday Devon and I had the HEB sale ad trying to make a menu and grocery list for the week. Lyric came up and decided she needed to have a look to see what she "needed". Her list consisted of: a pineapple, a watermelon, oranges, one apple (red), strawberries and grapes. Yes, she likes fruit.
Later that evening when I went to HEB I picked up everything on her list. So, today we got to cut up the pineapple and the watermelon(it was just a little one). A first for us all. I know! Isn't that sad! Pineapple is one of my favorite fruits, but I have never bought a fresh one because I thought it would be too much trouble to cut up. I never bought watermelon because Devon doesn't like it, I didn't think I liked it and I always thought it would be way too much fruit for just the girls.
The girls were really excited to get started with the cutting. I carried the pineapple to the table and Lyric carried the watermelon. She didn't quite make it to the table. She dropped the watermelon right before she set it on the table. We all had a good laugh about how we wouldn't have to cut it open it was already done. So Story, what did you think of the watermelon? "Double no good!"
And Miss Lyric how about you, did you like the watermelon? "Yuck!"
Now let's cut open the pineapple. Luckily, it came with directions.
Lyric "read" them to me. With a little help from Cadence.
Cutting off the top. Picture courtesy of Story.

I didn't get any pictures of the tasting but the pineapple got thumbs up from us all! It was so good!

I actually discovered I like watermelon, too. I don't know if it was because it was a little one or if my taste buds are changing, but I really liked it. Maybe I will let Miss Lyric make a grocery list more often.

J is for Jewelry

We had a playdate this morning where the girls made some jewelry.
Lyric worked really hard making her bracelet. Cadence also made a bracelet (with a little help from Mommy). Story decided on a necklace.
Cadence liked making the bracelet, but she didn't want to wear it very long. One of the other moms actually found it in the grass (Thanks, Dawn).
We had a nice morning at the park and then headed to Grammy's for the weekend.

New Pets

So, the week before we moved we came over to the new house to get some measurements and just check it out one more time before we moved in. Lyric and I were walking around outside and I saw a snail. I picked it up and gave it to Lyric to look out. We commented on how cool it was and how we should read up on snails on the internet to see how hard they are to take care of. We brought it home and Daddy got on the internet to do a little "research". You have to remember my husband is the kind of man who screams like a girl when a bug is anywhere near him, but who will go out of his way to keep from harming anything. Like tonight there was a bee in the kitchen. He is terrified of bees, but when I attempted to kill it with the dishrag he was mortified, so I gently wrapped the bee in the dishrag and set it free outside.
Anyway, so he ended up spending like an hour on the internet reading about snails. He then became very obsessed with this snail we found. We needed to go to the pet store the next day and get an aquarium for it. We needed to get a cuddle bone, because they need calcium or they will eat their own shell. We had to get some spring water to spray the cage. We needed to get some vegetables, but they had to be organic because many pesticides are specific for snails. WHAT? Are you kidding me? So the next thing you know the girls and I are out buying all of this crap, I mean stuff for this freaking snail that we found on the ground!
We get the little guy all set up in his new home and of course the girls want to look at it and carry around the little cage because it is their new pet. Daddy can hardly stand to see the way they carry it around and mess the cage all up, by moving it around. He really worries about the snail that we found on the ground, that I could have easily stepped on!
Well, we had the one snail, Sheldon. Lyric picked his name out all by herself; isn't she cleaver! A couple of days into the move we found two more snails. Story named one Snaily and Daddy named the other Morton. We are now the owners of three snails who get sprayed with spring water and eat organic carrots.
Here is a close up of one of the little guys. I'm not sure which one it is.
Here is one of them having a snack:
They are actually really interesting to watch!
There is only one problem with having three snails... they poop a lot. So, Daddy got back on the internet and found out we should put some worms in the cage to eat the poop. The girls had a really good time picking out the two worms who were going to go in the cage. I think Lyric was the only one who would touch them.

She LOVED them. She would take them out and talk to them and play with them. One of them had to be released in the dirt because he was being mean to the other worms.

Cadence became a little obsessed with this little guy. He got himself stuck in the picnic table and she kept watching him saying, "Stuck, stuck!" He finally worked himself loose.

Story was just being Story. Having a good time as usual!

We put two in with the snails. I am not sure if they got names or not. I know at one point Lyric was calling one Longy and Story was calling one Shorty.

Too soon to tell if they are going to eat the poop. I will be sure to keep you updated!

Still Here

No, we haven't fallen off the face of the Earth! We are still here. Things have been crazy busy! We moved last week and are still attempting to get things back in order. We moved from an approximately 1,800 sq foot house to a 1,000 sq foot house. That means there is A LOT of stuff that has to go! The closet in this house is 1/18th of the closet I had at my other house. It is so tiny that on both sides where the walls are the hangers will not even go in straight. We have like 10 things in it and it is about full. Devon's clothes have been laying on the couch for a week until tonight when Story decided to use them as a blanket. They are now in the floor, yes, we plan to find them a home... somewhere. There are some extra cabinets in the kitchen, um... maybe that would work.
Despite the square footage loss and the really small closet we really like the new place so far!
Those who know us well know we want to live on a bus someday, so we just see this little place as a stepping stone to living in under 500sq feet. If we could make it work this is what we would be living in traveling across the country. I will try to not be such a slacker with the blog; maybe I can even get some picts posted of the tiny closet:-)

Tax Day for Miss Lyric

Lyric walked up to her pretend keyboard set up on her easel today. She said, "Oh, let me look at my taxes!" She then started typing away. I was sitting nearby at my desk, "Are you getting any money back?"
Lyric, "Well, I'm getting six dollars back, but I really need seven!"
All I have to say is be glad you didn't owe anything Miss Lyric!

Weekend at Grammy's

The girls and I spent the weekend at Grammy's. Lyric requested hamburgers on Friday night. Grammy being the awesome grandma she is, let the girls help make them! I let the girls help a lot in the kitchen; usually more than I actually want them to, but hamburgers would have been one of those times when I said, "No, this is something you can help with." Not Grammy! Aren't the three of them cute in their aprons!Lyric was proud of her burger.Story showing off her burger still in the wax paper.Miss Lyric set the table and even did the napkins "fancy" wrapping them around the forks. After the big girls were done with their aprons Baby Cadence had to give it a try. She didn't do much cooking, but she sure looked cute!Taking a break from all of the playing to have a fudgesicle on Saturday. YUM!
Cadence decided she didn't like hers, but it didn't go to waste.
On Sunday, Finley and Faith Meadow came over to play. The girls had a tea party with tea, grapes and animal crackers.
The biggest event of the whole weekend (and I didn't even get a picture of it): Miss Lyric learned to swing by herself! We were outside and I was pushing her and Cadence on the swings. I didn't realize that I had stopped pushing her and she was doing it all alone. After a while of swinging by herself she nonchalantly said, "I'm swinging by myself." I was shocked and then I realized that I had only been pushing Cadence the last few minutes. I didn't know if she was ever going to be able to do it and now she can Yeah, Miss Lyric!

Sheestee

Today I dropped my cell phone and said, "Sheestee!" (It is a word I made up and don't recall ever using it before.)
SB was near me when I said it.  She asked, "Why did you say sheestee?"
I said, "I don't know.  I dropped my cell phone, so I just said that word."
She said, "I know why you said it; because shit is not a nice word."
Yes, SB you are right shit is not a nice word!
