So, I don't think I have posted about my coupons yet. Right? Well, a few weeks ago I decided I was going to get serious about coupons. I did a little research online. I watched a YouTube video where someone showed their coupon binder and how it was set up (who knew there were YouTube videos about such things?) I headed out to WalMart and picked up a binder and some baseball card holders and I was one my way!
I am still very new to all of this and just trying to figure it all out! But I really want to be one of those people who go into a store and buy like $100.00 worth of stuff and only spend like $7.41. How cool would that be!
I follow this blog Mommy Snacks and she includes the sales each week for CVS. She has a link on her site for another blog where they host a $5.00 CVS challenge (you go into CVS and see how much you can buy for $5). So, I decided to try it today.
So here is what I bought:
Transaction 1:
Colgate Total Toothpaste- 2.99
Band Aid (60 count)- 2.99
Playtex Tampons- 3.99
With my coupons and I had $2 ECB from last week I paid $5.55 and I got $7ECB
Transaction 2:
Revlon Nail Polish- 3.99
Speed Stick Pro Deodorant- 3.99
With my coupons and $5 ECB from transaction 1 I paid $1.98 and I got $6.99 ECB
Transaction 3:
2 Olay Body Wash- 2/$12
2 Post Trail Mix Crunch cereal- BOGO
First Aid Kit- .99
St Ive Apricot Scrub- 1.49
With my coupons and $8.99 ECB from transaction 2 I paid $1.78 and I got $5 ECB
In the end I spent $9.31 and I have 5 ECB left to spend! I had a fun time at CVS! I didn't think it was too bad for my first time;-)
Any couponers out there who would like to give a newbie advice I would love to hear it!

My cousin's wife posted about CVS on her blog. Did you do 3 different transactions in one visit? Why? I'm a bit confused...maybe I just need to go in. Thanks so much for posting the details...it's hard to pass up now that I see the savings!
I have heard about this too, but seriously can't make myself think it all through if the kids are with me! Were the kids with you!!?? I guess you plan ahead but I know I'd walk in and mess it all up.
Jenn, you have to do different transactions. You get your ECBs (Extra Care Bucks-like CVS money) then you use that for your next transaction, so you aren't having to spend money OOP (out of pocket). You should check out the website that does the $5 challenge. People list really easy transactions for newbies. I just went on there and found someone who bought the same stuff that I wanted and copied;-)
Jill, I did it without the kids. Makes life much easier! Good excuse to go by yourself, "Honey, I will be able to save us so much money if I am able to concentrate:-)"
Does the store clerk thing you are nuts to do multiple transactions or are they used to it? I think I might be embarrassed! Or afraid other customers would be weirded out by me. ha So glad you did it so I can ask you all these things I have always wandered!!
